GLT is happy to provide on line and on air listings of events and community services throughout central Illinois. These listings are gathered from various non profit community organizations, citizens, and visitors to the GLT website. Community Listings

The Ecology Action Center has announced the expansion of accepted recyclables in Bloomington-Normal.  More types of plastic will be accepted for recycling, including yogurt containers and similar items with plastic numbers 1-5 and 7; plastic beverage bottle lids if kept on the container; and other food containers including plastic clamshells and microwave convenience food containers (plastic numbers 1-5 and 7)   http://ecologyactioncenter.org/

The annual Relay for Life is June 27 & 28 at Normal Community West High School.  The event raises funds for cancer research.  http://www.relayforlife.org/relay/

The Sugar Grove Nature Center is offering a variety of events this month including"Nature Tails:  Birds of a Feather" on Wednesday, May 21; "Crazy About Crayfish Campfire" on Friday, May 23; "Bird Hike" on Saturday, May 24 and there's a native plant sale on Saturday, May 24.  http://www.sugargrovenaturecenter.org/

Homes of Hope is sponsoring a Tour of Homes at Lake Bloomington May 16 - 18.  The homes are open form 1 to 8 PM on the 16th, 11 AM to 4 PM on the 17th and 1 to 4 PM on the 18th.   A meal at the East Bay Camp Tearoom is included.  309-310-1206

The Red Cross is holding a Blood Drive at the Morton VFW on Saturday, May 10 from 8 to 11 AM.  309-839-0605

The Peoria Park District's Forest Park Nature Center is holding Migratory Bird Walks this spring:  May 17 & June 7.  Beginners are welcome.  Participants should be over the age of 10.  309-686-3360

The beautiful and mysterious Northern Lights are the subject of the new Illinois State University Planetarium show, "Aurora," running weekends through May 10.    Showtimes are at 7:30 PM on Fridays and Saturdays at 2 and 7:30 PM.    309-438-5007

Washington Christian Church is collecting denim jeans for wounded soldiers overseas as part of "Operation Quiet Comfort."  The jeans are cut into squares and turned into quilts for soldiers recuperating in military hospitals.  The denim needs to be 100% cotton denim, no lycra or spandex, and light or medium blue in color.  309-444-2550

The 12th Annual Glorious Garden Festival is Friday and Saturday, June 20 & 21 at the David Davis Mansion in Bloomington.  The festival includes a garden walk, children's activities and a Victorian Garden Party.   http://www.daviddavismansion.org/
