A native of the Midwest, Laura Kennedy was raised in central Illinois by parents who were always slightly concerned that their strangely pale child spent an inordinate amount of time listening to classic swing records and renamed her Barbie and Ken "Ella" and "Benny" (after Fitzgerald and Goodman). Their fears were assuaged when, after graduating from Illinois State University with a degree in communication, Laura went to work for GLT and finally moved out of the house. Now GLT's adored jazz and swing diva, she considers her sultry voice to be nothing more than a freak of nature. But she is only too glad to share her gift with GLT listeners.
In addition to providing listeners with countless hours of superb music, Laura also serves as GLT's Arts Reporter, a role in tune with her vaguely misspent youth taking music, dancing and art history lessons.
Ms. Kennedy's hobbies include fantasizing about Buster Keaton, perusing the J. Peterman catalog and sleeping.
