The Infamous Stringdusters are the new vanguard of acoustic music. Well crafted songs, vivid arrangements, instrumental virtuosity, wrapped up with equal parts improvisation, individuality and tight harmony make this band the very definition of American acoustic music. These young wizards of bluegrass are equally comfortable with jazz, folk, blues, and country. Music enthusiasts everywhere have decided that if this is bluegrass, then they LOVE bluegrass.
Drawing on the talents of up-and-coming Nashvillians Andy Hall, Andy Falco, Chris Pandolfi, Jeremy Garrett, Jesse Cobb, and Travis Book, the Infamous Stringdusters manage to balance a fluency in old-timey bluegrass with indie jamgrass sensibilities.
Their first release, Fork in the Road (Sugar Hill 2007) was named Album of the year by the International Bluegrass Music Association. Its title track was named Song of the Year, and the band itself earned the honor of best emerging artist in a competitive field. Their latest self-titled CD was released in June of 2008. It represents all the band has become during two years of intense touring and brotherly jamming.
Their stop in Normal is one of those in-on-the-ground-floor experiences that we thrive on at GLT. Our own General Manager and Acousticity™ host Bruce Bergethon discovered these virtuosos and it took very little convincing to get Events Director Linda Healy to agree that we needed to make a space on the events calendar to bring The Infamous Stringdusters in for a live concert.
After all, based on Bergethon’s recommendations, we were in the company of acoustic greatness twice before - with Nickel Creek in 2003 and again in 2005 with The Greencards. Trust us, this is going to be one of those concerts you’ll be talking about for years.
The acoustic acumen of The Infamous Stringdusters can only be matched by the impeccable sound of the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall (NOTE: You will find driving directions, parking information, and photos of the concert hall at this link, but tickets for this concert are only available through GLT.) This is truly a rare opportunity to see the best of the best playing a perfect hall.
