18-Year-Old ID'd In Fatal Tazewell County Shooting

An 18-year-old Mackinaw man was identified Saturday as the person shot and killed by a Tazewell County sheriff's deputy.

Matthew G. Brown was shot Friday morning during in an incident at his home at 34368 Illinois 9 in Mackinaw, around 20 miles west of Bloomington-Normal. Authorities said officers responded to reports of an armed man. Brown allegedly pointed a gun at the responding officers, who shot him.

Brown died from multiple gunshot wounds and internal bleeding, Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said in a statement Saturday. Brown was shot five times.

A final autopsy report is pending toxicology results.

Illinois State Police is investigating the case.
