Bloomington-Normal Home Sales Tick Back Up In August

The Bloomington-Normal Association of Realtors released new sales figures on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017.

Bloomington-Normal home sales ticked back up again in August as more buyers closed deals toward the end of the busy selling season.

In all, 270 existing homes sold in August, up from 261 this time last year, the Bloomington-Normal Association of Realtors reported Tuesday. Overall existing home sales are about flat (down 0.6 percent) for 2017 compared with the first eight months of 2016.

The average price of an existing home sale stands at $171,033 this year, up about 3.7 percent from 2016. Existing home sales represent the bulk of local real estate activity.

Sales of newly built homes continue to struggle. Eleven new homes were sold in August, down from 14 in August 2016. Overall new construction sales are down 12.9 percent so far in 2017.
