Bloomington-Normal's bus system has named an interim General Manager by promoting from within.

Chief Operating Officer Isaac Thorne will take over for General Manager Andrew Johnson. Johnson is leaving for a new job with the bus system in Champaign-Urbana.Thorne has been with Connect Transit in Bloomington for a decade. He started in operations, moved to procurement, and became  Chief Operating Officer in 2015.

In a news release, the Connect Transit Board says they are confident Thorne will be a strong leader in the transition and expect he will be a candidate for the permanent position.

"Andrew has assembled and helped to train a top notch, effective team. The Trustees agree that the best course is to draw interim leadership from the excellent team already in place.  We are confident that Isaac will be a strong leader in this transition and expect he will be a candidate for the permanent position," said the statement.

"I appreciate the confidence the Board has in my abilities and am grateful for the opportunity to lead this talented Connect Transit team after Andrew’s departure," said Thorne.

The decision requires a board vote March 21st.
