Criminal Justice Reform Is A Swinging Pendulum

In Springfield there has been remarkably little movement on a state budget. But, there has at least been rhetorical agreement on the need for change in another arena, the often difficult to deal with idea of criminal justice and prison reform.

Governor Rauner's public utterances and Democratic party policy goals show a chance to align. Law enforcement is one of the stakeholders in this discussion. GLT's Charlie Schlenker asks Police Chief Rick Bleichner of the Town of Normal how he views the likely tradeoffs from that policy area.

Normal Police Chief Rick Bleichner also says he's pleased with his department's efforts at community policing and gaining the trust of minority groups in the area.

WGLT Senior Reporter Charlie Schlenker has spent more than three award-winning decades in radio. He lives in Normal with his family.
