Republicans and Democrats appear headed for a contested election for McLean County Board’s District 9 seat on Bloomington’s south side.
Democrat David Parker on Tuesday announced his intention to run for the seat currently held by Democrat Erik Rankin, who does not plan to seek re-election in 2018.
Parker, an aircraft mechanic, is a Democratic precinct committeeman.
"I love this community,” Parker said in a statement. “I have been honored to serve the people of McLean County in a variety of ways, including as precinct committeeman and working with the Pepper Ridge Elementary Promise Council. Serving on the County Board would be a great opportunity for me to continue serving my neighbors here in McLean County.”
Republican Jeremy Bradley, a Country Financial representative and former sheriff’s deputy, announced his own plans to run for District 9 last week.
Republican Susan Schafer also represents District 9, but she's not up for re-election until 2020.
The primary is in March, with the general election in November.
