Ebola Volunteer 'Not Prepared' For Emotional Toll

Time magazine named the many volunteers fighting last year's Ebola outbreak in western Africa their "Persons of the Year." One of the volunteers selected to literally be the "face" of this effort was Ella Stryker, a New Jersey native and public educator who began volunteering only last year with Doctors Without Borders. Her face was one of five chosen to be on the cover. Ella Stryker spoke recently at ISU on "The Health Educator's Role in the Effort to Control Ebola."

Ella Stryker says the entire outbreak could have been avoided, calling the crisis a "shared failure." Her appearance in Normal was sponsored by ISU's Department of Health Sciences and the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation Nolte Fund.
