Eureka College has it's first female president, and it's first chancellor. Current president J. David Arnold will step into the role of chancellor as he begins a semi-retirement. Replacing him as president on an interim basis is Jamel Santa Cruze Bell, the current vice president for strategic planing and diversity. Both assume their new roles July 1st. Bell says there are clear advantages to making the announcement so far ahead of time.

Bell is also the first African-American to head the Woodford County school. Eureka was founded 160 years ago by abolitionists belonging to the Disciples of Christ. She earned her masters from the University of Kansas. Arnold, a first generation college graduate, has been instrumental in enabling Eureka to notch record enrollment and fundrasing numbers, and he says he did it while many other colleges struggled.
