Mark your calendars: Illinois State football will take on the University of Illinois in Champaign in 2020.
The Illini announced the game Wednesday, part of a big schedule release that stretches into 2025. The Redbirds-Illini game will be Sept. 5, 2020, at Memorial Stadium.
The Illini play in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), generally considered the highest level of play. The Redbirds play in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), in which schools are allowed to offer fewer scholarships than FBS schools. Illinois State reached (but lost) the FCS national championship game in 2015.
