Bus contractor First Student has named a new location manager for McLean County. Mark Bohl was introduced to the Unit 5 School Board during Wednesday night's meeting.

Bohl said he loves challenges and working in a fast-paced environment.

"I'll be honest. My first three days working have been exciting, yet challenging," said Bohl. "My Supervisor and I were talking. It was like trial by fire in the last couple days. You have the typical instances that happen on school buses with kids."

Bohl said he has enjoyed working with his team of drivers and monitors while they try to create a better service for the Unit 5 students and families. He said setting goals for consistency with drivers is very important.

"The number one goal is to get our kids safely to school and back home on time," said Bohl. "I'm not going to say there's not obstacles in there. Some of them are out of our control unfortunately like road work and accidents that happen and we have to detour our bus around."

Bohl said he wants to ensure that First Student is in constant communication with the administrators at all Unit 5 schools while also taking time to answer phone calls from parents as efficiently as possible.

School board members have until Nov. 1 to decide if they want to keep First Student as their contractor for the 2017-2018 school year.

Bohl is a Navy veteran and worked for Caterpillar before starting with First Student earlier this week.

Mike joined GLT's staff as a student reporter in February of 2016 having worked previously as a reporter at Illinois State University's student radio station, 103.3 WZND. He acted as a director for the WZND newsroom for two years. Mike was also seen as a reporter, producer, and anchor at TV-10 News. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism in May of 2017 before starting his post-graduate career with the Public Affairs Reporting Masters Program at University of Illinois Springfield.
