Scheme Uncovered

Five ex-managers of the former U.S. Cellular Coliseum (now Grossinger Motors Arena) face over 100 counts of fraud and money laundering. The current managers of the facility, VenuWorks, found alleged financial discrepancies related to John Butler, who faces the most charges among the five.

Sewer Rate Spike

Bloomington residents will pay an additional $6 on their storm and sewer bills starting next May. The City of Bloomington will use the funds to repair decades-old deteriorating underground infrastructure.

Should They Have Been Informed?

Bloomington City Manager David Hales will begin the same job in Joliet later this year. Members of the Joliet city council were alarmed to learn about the recent indictments against the Coliseum managers.

Taking Precautions 

Unit 5 and District 87 schools are working to test the lead levels in drinking water. Lead was detected in a few schools in both districts, but levels were below the federal government threshold. Officials say parents shouldn't panic.
