Heartland Community College will delay opening Tuesday until 10 a.m. due to the forecast of extremely cold early morning temperatures. The late start affects all Heartland locations.
A wind chill warning remains in effect until 12 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. Wind chills are expected to range from 25 to 35 below zero in Central Illinois, the NWS reported.
A wind chill warning means the combination of very cold air and the wind will create dangerously low wind chill values. Frost bite can occur quickly and even hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken.
