The Illinois Symphony Orchestra puts on its Holiday Pops concert Friday evening at 7:30 at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts.
Music Director Ken Lam dropped by the GLT studios, as he often does before concerts, and said the challenge is to honor the sentiment of the holiday while keeping the interpretation and the music fresh.
One work on the program is "The Snowman." Originally published in 1978, "The Snowman," created and illustrated by Raymond Briggs, has become one of the world’s most popular children’s books, selling over 8.5 million copies worldwide. In 1982, the book was adapted into a 26-minute animated film that has turned into a holiday classic. The ISO performance features Boy Soprano Harrison Faulkner of Springfield.
The concert also includes such holiday favorites as Sleigh Ride, Parade of the Wooden Soldiers, Skaters Waltz, The Nutcracker, Chanukah Suite and more.
Joining the ISO, are area performing arts groups including the Bloomington-Normal Youth Symphony, Twin Cities Ballet, Sangamon Valley Youth Symphony, Springfield Ballet Company and Springfield Youth Performance Group.
