ISU Names New VP For Finance

Illinois State University

Illinois State University's new Vice President for Finance and Planning will be on the job early next month.

ISU President Larry Dietz has announced he picked Daniel Stephens, who most recently has been an associate vice chancellor in the University of North Texas three campus system. The North Texas System includes more than 42,000 students.

ISU Spokesman Jay Groves said Stephens emerged from a field of several dozen candidates.

Groves said the selection committee found Stephens's private sector finance experience valuable on top of his education finance background.

"He has a lot of work with bonds and different streams of revenue in his past positions. Those are all things we were looking for. I think the search committee was impressed by his knowledge of the university and his commitment to the values that are part of Educating Illinois," said Groves.

ISU indicates Stephens helped oversee an administrative restructuring of the North Texas system and held senior leadership responsibility for accounting, financial reporting, student financial services, accounts payable, payroll, asset accounting, external audit, tax, and accounting systems.

Stephens has also held jobs at the University of Idaho, Jacksonville University in Florida, and Central Michigan. Before that he spent fifteen years in audit accounting, and other financial roles in the private sector.

"He will play an integral part in helping the University continue its path to success during these financially turbulent times," said President Dietz.

Stephens said he is excited to partner with ISU President Larry Dietz, the leadership team, and faculty, staff, and students to continue to grow ISU's first class reputation.

"It is an honor to be selected to serve as the vice president for Finance and Planning. Illinois State University has an exceptional academic, athletic, and student success reputation across all of its programs that is consistently identified as top tier, not only within the State of Illinois and the Midwest region, but also recognized nationally," said Stephens.

President Dietz is also thanking current Vice President Greg Alt for his 27 years of service with the university.

"Greg has done an amazing job of working with the campus community throughout his tenure at ISU. I would like to express my gratitude for his contributions in making Illinois State strong and stable," said Dietz.

Alt is retiring.
