The mayor of Normal said Tuesday he thinks a variety of initiatives can happen to address the impact of recent gun violence on Bloomington-Normal.

Speaking on GLT's Sound Ideas, Mayor Chris Koos said he is active in the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

"There's not one checkoff. There have to be multiple solutions. People have to be responsible about keeping their guns. There have to be better background checks on guns. And there has to be a crackdown on repeat offenders who traffic guns illegally," said Koos.

Koos said a lot of gun violence happens using stolen weapons. He said there should be changes in laws addressing those who steal guns or use stolen weapons. He suggested closing loopholes in background checks for gun show purchasers.

Koos also spoke on Sound Ideas about Monday's vote on the town's new multifamily recycling ordinance.
