LaHood Would Back Trump As GOP Nominee

Congressman Darin LaHood

Central Illinois Congressman Darin LaHood said the current havoc apparent in the GOP presidential primary is a result of a disenfranchised electorate.

In a Sound Ideas interview with Willis Kern, the Republican from Dunlap said, "I wish the rhetoric and the name-calling hadn't been elevated like it has. It's unfortunate, and I wish we could talk about policy, and I think that's what we need to stick with. But it's part of the democrat process."

LaHood says he continues to support Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who LaHood admits must win big in the five states choosing delegates March 15-- Illinois, Missouri, Florida, North Carolina and Ohio.

"I wish he had won more states but he hasn't, so I think his path is getting narrower," said LaHood. He said he will support whoever wins the Republican nomination this summer. LaHood said he's support the nominee, even if that candidate turns out to be Donald Trump.

Willis is a Bloomington, IL, native. During his senior year at Bloomington High School, he finished third in the "Radio Speaking" division of the state speech contest, the only year he competed.
