The head of the McLean County Board has been indicted in a fraud case. Matt Sorensen is accused of using his position as an internal consultant at State Farm Insurance to collude with an outside firm to file phony invoices for consulting work never done. The indictment also alleges Sorensen steered State Farm work to fellow defendant Navdeep Arora a former partner at the firm of McKinsey and Company, who was arrested Sunday. State Farm spokesman Phil Supple says the insurer cooperated with investigators. He says State Farm had not employed Sorensen in more than three years. Supple also says State Farm contacted the Attorney General's office in 2012 about the situation.
The indictment alleges Sorensen personally benefited by more than $370,000 from the scheme
Statement from McLean County Administrator Bill Wasson
"Early this morning the McLean County Administrator's Office became aware of reports in the media that Matt Sorensen is named in a federal indictment. Reports indicate that the indictment surrounds Mr. Sorensen's employment with a previous employer. There is no indication that the allegations in the indictment involve Mr. Sorensen's position with McLean County. We are reviewing this issue with legal counsel and will provide additional comment as appropriate."

"This involves a matter we discovered and shared with the US attorney’s office in April 2012, and on which we fully cooperated throughout the investigation. Confidentiality is a key factor in criminal investigations and proceedings. We were unable to disclose or comment on the investigation while it was underway nor can we do so now that this is the subject of a federal criminal proceeding. Matt Sorensen has not been employed by State Farm for more than three years. We do not comment on personnel matters. State Farm has not had any contractual relationship with McKinsey since June 2012."
