The incumbent and winner of the district three McLean County Board seat seemed to want to talk about the national races more than his own victory.

George Wendt defeated Jessielee Hinshaw in the west side Bloomington district that stretches into rural parts of the county.Wendt said the national race surprised everybody.

"Well, I make it that the people are upset with the country and the direction it's going. And it's amazing that Trump has been able to do what he has done," said Wendt.

A number of puzzled analysts have been speculating that this election is a redefinition of politics from left versus right to up versus down. Wendt disagreed.

"I don't think it is. If you listen carefully to his platform, it's fairly much down the conservative line; reduction of taxes, reduction of regulations, enforcing the border," said Wendt.

That ignores, though Trump's emphasis on trade protectionism and other non GOP proposals.

For his own race, Wendt said he appreciates voter support.
