Music As Social Good Animates ISO Conductor Finalist

Illinois Symphony Orchestra

The Illinois Symphony Orchestra is spending this concert year auditioning potential new Music Directors.

First up is Vladimir Kulenovic.  The Illinois Symphony Orchestra performs tomorrow evening at the BCPA in Bloomington and Saturday night in Springfield.Kulenovic studied at Juilliard, Peabody, and with Kurt Masur in Germany,  as well as Marin Alsop and James Depriest, a very important Shostakovich and Mahler interpreter, though that understates Depriest's contributions.

Originally from Serbia, Kulenovic led a bi-continental youth music education.

Some conductors come to the profession after mastering an instrument; Gerard Schwartz, Jean Francois Paillard, and Sir Neville Mariner, who recently passed away, are a few examples. Kulenovic has said you knew you wanted to be a conductor from a very young age. He tells GLT's Charlie Schlenker why.

WGLT Senior Reporter Charlie Schlenker has spent more than three award-winning decades in radio. He lives in Normal with his family.
