It was a prescient decision. Not only did the Flint example focus national attention on the safety of public water supplies, but the on-going drought in California also called attention to the need for communities to plan for adequate amounts of drinking water. This five-part investigative news series centers on the state of water in McLean County and what threats lie ahead. You’ll learn how Lakes Bloomington and Evergreen shape up as primary water resources, and you’ll hear about possible solutions to saving water and improving its quality.

A new mixed use development next to Hyatt Place in Normal, called One Uptown Circle, has to receive approval from the Normal Town Council Monday night before the project moves forward. The proposed building design requires the council to waive some of the town’s design codes for the area, but those waivers are considered to be quote “minor” according to a staff report.

Council members will also hear recommendations from Normal Water Department Director Steve Gerdes following a 15 month study of the water treatment plant completed in April 2015.

Before the Normal council meeting, the Connect Transit Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing to listen to public input on the final proposed changes to routes and schedules. The board will vote on the plan Tuesday.
