One Injured In North Normal Shooting

UPDATED 2:20 p.m. | Police in Normal are releasing new details about a shooting which injured a man in north Normal on Wednesday. 

Police were called to the 1700 block of North School Street, north of Raab Road near the Constitution Trail Shopping Center at about 9:30 p.m. where witnesses said gunfire erupted outside of an apartment. 

Witnesses told police they saw a black male in dark clothing leaving the area on foot to a light-colored vehicle west of the apartment complex. A local hospital told police a short time later that an adult male come to the hospital and told them they had been shot. 

Police said a 26-year-old man told officers he was shot, but his injuries don’t appear to be life threatening. 

Chief Rick Bleichner said there is no indication the shooting is related to any of the recent shootings in Bloomington-Normal. 

Seven people have been killed by gunfire in the Twin Cities in the last two months.
