Construction on the One Uptown  Circle project in Normal should begin in August. The three story building will house a restaurant on the first floor, office space on the second, and high-end apartments on the top floor.  The Normal Town Council approved nearly $70,000 in design work from Eckenhoff Saunders Architects for its offices which will occupy the second floor.

This project is the second phase of One Uptown Circle. This building will go in the empty space next to the hotel.  Normal City Manager Mark Peterson said young professionals and empty nesters will occupy the available apartments.

"I think you'll see a real mix of ages and lifestyles in that building, and from what I've seen from the early renderings, it's going to be quite beautiful. Very nice, very high class space" said Peterson.

Normal council members approved design plans for the office space on the second floor, which will house various departments for the town. Peterson said the project is moving along on schedule.

"I think you will start to see construction activity on the site in August. The town has committed to lease one floor plate in the building, and the action tonight the council took was beginning planning for that office space, we'll move a number of departments onto that floor" said Peterson.

Peterson said they have already received calls from citizens interested in leasing the apartments.
