PARCC Test Results On Par With Naitonal Assessments

Illinois students took a new kind of standardized test last year --the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers — and the results were released Friday.  IPR's Dusty Rhodes has more.

RHODES: Everybody refers to this new assessment by the acronym PARCC. Likewise, we all refer to the the test it replaced as the ISAT, which stands for Illinois Standards Achievement Test. PARCC is based on more rigorous Common Core standards. Consequently, test scores were dramatically lower, statewide. Tony Smith, state superintendent of schools, put it into perspective by referring to yet another set of standardized tests.

SMITH: Honestly, the data more closely aligns to some of the national assessments. If you’ve been looking at some of the national trend and those data, um, the National Assessment of Educational Progress, it’s not that shocking.

RHODES: Last week also saw the passage of a federal law designed to shift focus away from standardized tests.  I'm Dusty Rhodes.
