Trump Plays Fear Card

Donald Trump's acceptance speech at the GOP convention was a litany of problems he said the country faces.

It was nothing like Ronald Reagan's famous slogan "It's morning in America."

But, ISU Political Scientist Tom McClure said Trump is aiming for something different.

"It's a very dark black image of America that he's been painting. I think the people he's trying to reach really can relate to that. I think he is trying to appeal to those who are not satisfied with the way things are. no matter how they try," said McClure.

And, McClure said  it is appropriate that the Trump campaign used music of the Rolling Stones.

"The theme of his speech itself and it's like the theme of three other Rolling Stones songs, 'Paint It Black', 'I Can't Get No Satisfaction', and 'Gimme Shelter, We're Just a Shout Away.' I think people can resonate with his message, at least a lot of people can," said McClure.

McClure said it remains a question whether that constituency could be a majority.

McClure said what Hillary Clinton needs to do next week is attack Trump during the Democratic convention.

Next week listen to GLT coverage of the Democratic Party Convention in Philadelphia during Sound Ideas.

Here is Charlie Schlenker's interview with Tom McClure.
