Early filings are slow for Town of Normal municipal elections next year. Today is the first day candidates can file petitions to appear on the ballot.
Only incumbent Scott Preston and candidate Ron Ulmer had filed for Town Council as of mid-morning.
Incumbent Kevin McCarthy is also circulating petitions, but has not yet filed.
Other potential council candidates who have picked up petitions include Chemberly Cummings and Matt Jones. There are three council seats up for election and only two incumbents have indicated they will try to retain their seats.
24-year veteran Cheryl Gaines has said she will run for Township Supervisor.
For Mayor three people are known to have picked up petitions: incumbent Chris Koos, Marc Tiritilli, and Jeffrey Burghrave. None have filed yet.
There could be other candidates out there. Potential candidates can also print petitions from the internet without letting the city clerk know.
The deadline to file nominating petitions is Nov. 28.
