West Nile Surfaces In McLean County

McLean County has hit all three indicators of West Nile virus for the year in one day.

The Health Department says there is a probable human case of West Nile in the county.

A mosquito pool west of Bloomington tested positive. And Assistant Director Kathy Coverston-Anderson says a bird tested positive in Normal.

"Usually they do come later in the summer, so that is not unusual. And I think what is interesting to know is that we have not had a case of west nile virus since 2013," said Coverston-Anderson.

Until recently this had been a light year in the state. Coverston-Anderson says people should protect themselves from mosquito bites.
