Tannins & Hops is no more, but expect the beer to keep flowing on Water Street.
The speakeasy closed in August. On Monday, the bar’s owner posted on social media the popular drinking spot would be permanently closed.
Kenneth Allison is the new tenant of 619 SW Water, which he's renaming "Mack's." He says he’s going for a American-style grill and bar with an automotive theme.
“Peoria doesn’t need to have another Irish bar by any stretch, you know? So we decided to call it M-a-c-k-s. And it’s almost going to have this theme of walking into your grandfather’s garage.”
The bar will be named after Allison’s wife’s grandfather. He says he was a World War II vet who liked spending time in his garage.
He said he'll also work with Pat Sullivan, the owner of the neighboring pub Kelleher's, on various events.
Allison also owns a body shop and The Throttle Bar and Grill on N. Main in East Peoria.
Allison says remodeling work on the bar is underway.
