The Children's Discovery Museum in Normal is scheduled to reopen May 27.

The Children's Discovery Museum in Uptown Normal has announced plans to reopen May 27, after being closed since the pandemic began 14 months ago.

“After more than a year of being physically apart, we are excited to welcome everyone back to the museum,” said Beth Whisman, executive director for the Town of Normal Cultural Arts Department and the Children’s Discovery Museum.

Admission is still limited under Phase Four of the Restore Illinois plan. Guests have to reserve a time and pay in advance.

Visitors ages 2 and up will be required to wear a mask and follow social distancing measures. The museum has signs and markers placed throughout the museum.

The museum has implemented new cleaning procedures that include plans to wash and rotate exhibit props hourly, Whisman said.

“Staff has planned for months to ensure a fun and safe environment that will continue to support the power of play for our visitors and families,” Whisman said. “Our members spent the last few weeks with us, successfully implementing new protocols and exhibit experiences.”

The museum also will reopen with the debut of a new first-floor exhibit entitled, "Healthy Me."

The museum plans to still offer activity kits for pickup for families who aren't comfortable coming back in person yet. And, it will have virtual activities available on its website and YouTube channel.
