More housing is coming to Bloomington after the city council OK’d the final plat for a new apartment complex Monday night.
It’s an addition to Wittenberg Woods at Prairie Vista. Four buildings, housing more than 50 apartment units, are set to be built on the northwest corner of Lutz Road and South Morris Avenue. The final plat is about four acres.
This comes at a time where Bloomington-Normal continues to experience a housing shortage. Building permit data reviewed by WGLT last year shows fewer homes were built in the community last year compared with 2022. Bloomington-Normal needs 4,000-7,500 units to remedy the problem, according to recent studies.
Watershed improvement grant
In a meeting that lasted about 9 minutes, the council also approved the city’s participation in a watershed improvement grant, a collaboration with the McLean County Soil and Water Conservation District.
The grant will fund multiple projects, including wetlands, a saturated buffer, and shoreline stabilization. It’s also meant to reduce effects of chemical runoff at Lake Bloomington and Evergreen Lake.
The grant total is $185,300.
