Election coordinators in McLean County are forecasting only a slight turnout increase from four years ago, in spite of a larger than usual number of candidates and contested races.
But there are pockets of very high turnout. The Village of Lexington is one. There is a mayoral race there.
And the two precincts at Illinois State University make another hot spot. At ISU more than 120 voters had cast ballots by early afternoon, compared to 13 four years ago.
McLean County Clerk Kathy Michael says towns in the Ridgeview School District are showing higher than usual turnout for this Consolidated Election. Those include areas in and around Arrowsmith, Anchor, Blue Mound, Cheneys Grove, Cropsey, Lawndale, and Martin. These are all around the Colfax and Saybrook areas. Arrowsmith could exceed its 43 percent turnout in 2013.
For the City of Bloomington, the Election Commission projects up to 25 percent turnout thanks to mayor and council races. That compares to 20 percent four years ago.
Countywide, 25 percent is the best estimate, up from 20 percent in 2013.
