McLean County has added two more COVID-19 cases, bringing its total to 79.
Gov. JB Pritzker said Sunday that Illinois may have reached its peak of COVID-19 cases, citing a recent decline in deaths, but McLean County Health Department Administrator Jessica McKnight said McLean County isn't about to start flattening the curve yet.
“We may be a week behind places like Chicago that saw it a little bit earlier than us,” McKnight said on Monday. “But we are probably within a week of our peak.”
Nearly 60% of McLean County's confirmed cases have recovered. Six patients remain hospitalized, including one in intensive care.
McKnight added about 1,200 McLean County residents have been tested for the virus, through the clinic and other medical providers.
Test Result Delays
COVID-19 testing at the McLean County Fairgrounds and other community clinics in Illinois takes a week or longer to get results in some cases. McKnight said state labs have been producing results much faster because the federal testing has been going to commercial labs and they are now seeing a backlog.
“My hope is that it’s not discouraging people just based upon the days (it takes for) the test results to come back,’ she said.
McKnight said if you are waiting for test results, you should isolate yourself as though you have the coronavirus.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,173 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing its total to 22,025. The state had 74 more pandemic deaths, bringing its total to 794.
