McLean County confirmed another COVID-19 case on Wednesday, while more than 70% of those who contracted the coronavirus having recovered.
The county’s current COVID-19 count stands at 82, according to the McLean County Health Department.
The department said 59 patients have recovered; 17 are in isolation and four remain hospitalized. Two people have died from the virus.
McLean County Health Department administrator Jessica McKnight cautioned it’s too soon to get complacent.
“We don’t think we are going back to normal anytime soon,” McKnight said. “If we did that too quickly that could be dangerous. We are likely to see cases on the rise again if everything was just opened immediately.”
McKnight said it's also too soon to start canceling summer events as Gov. JB Pritzker has suggested. She said wants to see how long stay-at-home orders are extended first.
“If you have an event in May, you may want to start looking at it, but it’s too soon so make any calls to cancel things at this point,” she said.
According to the county’s data, 62% of COVID-19 cases are female, while people in their 50s, 60s and 70s make up the bulk of the cases. Ten of the patients are health care workers.
McKnight said about 1,300 McLean County residents have been tested so far for COVID-19, including those done at the drive-up testing site at the McLean County Fairgrounds.
That site remains open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for health care workers, first responders, vulnerable populations and anyone who is experiencing symptoms.
Statewide, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced 1,346 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, including 80 additional deaths. Illinois now has 24,593 cases and 948 deaths.
