One person is dead after a Sunday afternoon fire at a residence in Peoria's North Valley.
The Peoria Fire Department said the unidentified victim was found inside the one-story home in the 600 block of Spitznagle Avenue.
Firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after 1:30 p.m. and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the building.
Crews were able to get the blaze under control within 10 minutes. No one else was injured. Animal Control took custody of one dog from the location.
The death and the cause of the fire remain under investigation.
