One day after reporting 15 deaths linked to COVID-19 from the past weekend, Tri-County health officials have added two more victims to the growing list, both Woodford County women in their 90s.
According to Tuesday’s daily update, the region’s number of coronavirus infections increased by 205 from the day before with the case count now at 29,167 since the start of the pandemic.
The latest fatalities bring the area's death toll to 465. One of the women lived at Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka while the other was not associated with a long-term care facility.
The number of active cases in the area stands at 2,853, with 111 patients being treated in Peoria-area hospitals – including 33 in intensive care units.
A new Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) online database tracking COVID-19 vaccinations, shows a total of 11,761 administered vaccines in Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties, with 1,501 residents fully vaccinated (0.43% of the population).
The IDPH reported 6,642 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, pushing the state tally since the start of the pandemic to 1,040,168. An additional 117 deaths attributed to the coronavirus in the past day moved the statewide toll to 17,743.
Hospitals across Illinois had 3,553 COVID patients as of Monday night, including 757 in ICUs and 409 on ventilators. The current preliminary seven-day positivity rate is down to 8.6%.
