Creative Commons

A 75-year-old Peoria woman is dead after a suspected elder abuse incident.

Peoria police responded to the 500 block of NE Monroe around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. Sandra Jackson was found unresponsive and taken to OSF Saint Francis with serious injuries. She was pronounced dead just before 2:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers arrested Jackson's roommate, 41-year-old Dimitri Rogatchev for aggravated battery. That was elevated to first degree murder after Jackson died at the hospital.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said Jackson died from severe brain bleeding caused by inflicted blunt force trauma.

This is Peoria's 23rd recorded homicide of 2019.
