Abdnour Concedes Peoria Township Primary To Leary

Incumbent Peoria Township Supervisor Frank Abdnour has conceded defeat in last month’s Democratic primary to LaTrina Leary.

Abdnour , who was  seeking a second term, issued a statement Friday afternoon acknowledging Leary’s two-vote victory, offering her congratulations.

“I wish her nothing but the best, and do the same for the constituents who rely on the Office of Peoria Township Supervisor,” he said in his statement. “It has been an honor for me to serve in that capacity for the last four years.”

Last week, Abdnour requested a discovery recount of the nearly 6,300 primary results cast to determine whether he would formally contest the election. In his statement, Abdnour indicated the recount did not suggest any possibility of changing the original results.

“I had felt an obligation to my family and those who voted for me to do what I could to ensure the integrity of the outcome with a discovery recount,” he said. “Having now exercised our legal option, it is clear to me that there is no longer a path forward.”

With no Republican on the general election ballot, Leary effectively becomes the supervisor-elect in the April 6 election.
