Frank Abdnour is requesting a discovery recount in the Peoria Township Supervisor Democratic primary election.
Abdnour, the current first-term incumbent, officially lost his re-election race to LaTrina Leary by just two votes.
In a statement, Abdnour he wants a discovery recount to verify the accuracy of that result. He said the findings will help him determine whether he wants to formally contest the results of the election in court.
"In a race this close, I feel I owe it to those who believed in my candidacy – specifically my family and those who put their faith in me at the ballot box – to see this effort through to the end," he said.
Abdnour said he's retaining the Springfield law firm Sorling Northrup.
With no Republicans on the ballot, the winner of February's Democratic primary effectively becomes the next township supervisor.
