All Bradley University Students Ordered To Quarantine For 2 Weeks

Bradley University is ordering all students to quarantine and learn remotely for the next two weeks.

In a message to students and faculty, university President Stephen Standifird said there are currently just under 50 confirmed cases on campus, but more than 500 students are quarantining. Through contact tracing, Standifird said more students are being identified for quarantining.

All students are asked to quarantine at their residence hall, Greek house, St. James apartment, off-campus apartment, or house through Sept. 23.

"Although it may seem extreme, this move to temporary remote learning and a two-week, all-student quarantine allows us to focus on the continuity of the educational experience for all of our students while giving us time to gather data on the full extent of the spread of the virus and assess the best way to proceed as a community," said Standifird.

Standifird said he is "particularly concerned" about the lack of compliance regarding necessary behaviors to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, like mask-wearing and social distancing. He said the campus guidelines are no longer recommendations, but mandatory, with disciplinary actions up to dismissal from campus on the table.

Classes resumed two weeks ago.

Standifird is asking students currently on campus not to go home, but to stay on campus through the quarantine period. He said students can pick up meals at the Michel Student Center, run essential errands, and go to work after confirming with their employer; but should avoid congregating, hosting guests, or going to off-campus drinking or eating establishments, or houses.

Staff already working on campus will continue to work in-person. Faculty has the option to work remotely, but can work on campus, if they wish, Standifird said.
