B-N Home Sales Healthy In July

Creative Commons

Housing sales in Bloomington Normal appear to be reflecting the economy as a whole; growing over last year, but increasing slower than at this time last year.

Association of Realtors President Karent Stailey-Lander is pleased with the results through July.

"Closed sales year to date, at the end of July, showed a 5.2 percent increase over that same period last year," said Staily-Lander.

At the end of the first seven months last year, sales were up 6.7% from 2014.

Sales of existng homes are up. Sales of new homes are flat.

The report indicates sales for July alone were 312, up slightly from the same month last year.

"The one thing that really surprised me last month, the average days on the market for the closed sales fell to sixty days. So that's a strong indication that if the property is priced right and in good condition, it is selling quickly," said Stailey-Lander.

Pending sales were up slightly at the end of July.

Inventory was up slightly at the end of July with more than 11-hundred homes currently listed on the market.

The average price for a home sold in the twin cities so far this year is up slightly to 172-thousand-dollars.
