Joseph T. Thornton III
Bloomington Police

A 49-year-old Bloomington man wanted on attempted murder charges has been arrested in Nashville,  Tenn., police said Friday.

Joseph T. Thornton III is suspected of seriously injuring another man in a shooting June 3 in the 800 block of East Washington Street, Bloomington Police said. Authorities called it an isolated incident preceded by an argument.

Authorities have been looking for Thornton for the past month. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested him Thursday in Nashville on charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, unlawful use of a weapon, and illegal weapon possession, police said. He's being held at the Davidson County jail in Tennessee awaiting extradition back to McLean County.

Thornton was on parole at the time of the shooting. He was paroled in August 2019 after serving prison time following a guilty plea to a gun charge.

Thornton has a lengthy criminal record and has been in and out of prison several times.
