Bloomington Planning Commission member Jay Ballmer is running for Alderman in Ward Three.
Before his kickoff event at an east side restaurant and night club, Ballmer told GLT he will watch out for particular challenges facing ward three.
"It may very well be the fastest growing ward in the city because of where it's located. So, I want to make sure that number one we don't wind up annexing another subdivision that's built out in the middle of nowhere with no provision for basic services," said Ballmer.
Ballmer said he has also spent a lot of time contributing to Bloomington's strategic plan and wants to follow that through
"I spent a lot of time working on, along with the rest of the planning commission, city staff, some members of the city council and of course the county and regional planning commission on the rewrite of the comprehensive plan, and I want to make sure that we implement that the way it was written," said Ballmer.
Ballmer says his decision to run is a natural outgrowth of past service on various boards and commissions.
The current third ward Alderman is Mboka Mwilambwe.
