UPDATED 3:20 p.m. | A Bloomington man was charged Friday with critically injuring his 5-month-old son, authorities said.

Jordan Powe, 27, was arrested Thursday afternoon, Bloomington Police said. He’s charged with aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery of a child under 13 that caused a permanent disability.

The 5-month-old was unresponsive with stroke-like symptoms Tuesday when first responders were called to Powe's residence on Willedrob Road, authorities said. The boy was transferred to OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois in Peoria and remains in critical condition, police said.

The boy was diagnosed with billateral subdural hematomas and extensive retinal hemmoraging, prosecutors said. He continues to have seizures and is unable to move the right side of his body, prosecutors said.

After police were called to investigate the injuries, Powe allegedly told investigators he shook the baby for about 30 seconds after becoming frustrated with him for crying and not drinking his milk, prosecutors said. Powe then allegedly laid the baby back in bed and left him alone for about an hour, prosecutors said.

"According to physicians, these injuries are consistent with being shaken in the manner described by (Powe)," prosecutors said.

This incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact BPD Detective Paul Jones at (309) 434-2548.

Powe is being held on $750,000 bond.
