Bloomington-Normal is known as an area where people like to dine out ... a lot. And that's inspiring a rash of entries into the Bloomington-Normal restaurant scene.
GLT's Charlie Schlenker talks with Larry Carius, who writes about area restaurants for the well-known Facebook Page Bloomington-Normal Restaurant Scene, about some of those new restauranteurs.
Here's what you'll hear about in the interview:
- The opening of the select-your-own toppings Donut Experiment at the Morrissey Crossing development (formerly called Brandtville) in south Bloomington.
- A new Starbucks coming to Hyatt Place in Uptown Normal and what it will mean for local favorites like the Coffee Hound and Coffeehouse.
- The Original Pancake House will be opening in a new building where the Wild Berries previously stood, near the Shoppes of College Hills.
- The opening of Zen, featuring a sushi bowl line and Mongolian barbecue, in the former Pizza Hut building on North Main Street, near ISU's Alumni Center.
Carius also notes that a central Illinois favorite, the Bayern Stube in Gibson City, is for sale after 26 years. The owners are moving to Florida but hope to find someone to continue the tradition.
