Salary and healthcare remain the sticking points in a contract dispute between the Blue Ridge school district and its teachers.

The union representing Blue Ridge teachers reports little progress in its latest meeting with the school district and a federal mediator.
Blue Ridge Federation President Don Anton said the two sides are far apart on salary and healthcare after meeting with a federal mediator on Tuesday night.

“We are miles apart on the core issues that will help us recruit and retain excellent staff members, and the board hasn’t offered the movement that would be acceptable to our members,” Anton said. “Both sides made movement tonight, but we are still far apart on the issues of salary and healthcare.”

Teachers in the Farmer City-based school district voted to form a strike exploratory committee last week. The earliest possible date for a potential strike would be Oct. 21.

The union has been working without a contract since June 30.
