Book Shop Receives Approval For Curbside Pickup

Apr 24, 2020

Many small businesses in Peoria were forced to close once the State of Illinois deemed them non-essential last month. Book Rack Used Books on North Knoxville Avenue was one of those businesses. But owner Stacy Hardin received approval from Governor Pritzker’s office to reopen this week for the first time since March 21.

When her shop closed last month, Hardin launched a website for shipping "Boredom Survival Kits" to customers. She compiles reading level kits based on the age of the recipient.

“For example, maybe it’s a five-year-old child, who likes picture books about unicorns and rainbows. They would put that information in the text box and then I will pull books based on those preferences,” Hardin explains.

Hardin then packages up those books with other items like bookmarks and pencils.

With the governor's approval, she's now able to offer the kits via curbside pickup.
