UPDATED 2:45 p.m. | The Normal Public Library this week joined Bloomington’s library in restarting curbside pickup, though both remain closed to the public because of the coronavirus.
The Normal library offers curbside pickup for patrons who’ve requested an item through the catalog on its website, the mobile app, or by phone. Patrons will be notified when their items are ready for pickup. They can schedule a pickup appointment online, or go during open pickup hours between 1-4 p.m. every day.
Arriving patrons are asked to stay inside their vehicles and either open their trunk or a car door, and an employee will drop off your items. This will keep you and the employee safe by never coming into contact with each other.
Both libraries also are now accepting returned items.
“We want to make sure that we are not contributing to the spread of COVID, so our current plan is that all items returned will be quarantined for seven full days, before staff handle them and check them in,” said Normal Public Library’s Community Engagement Manager Laura Golaszewski.
Bloomington resumed curbside pickup on May 12; on Monday it expanded those hours to 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The Normal library was delayed due to a construction project being done on its main floor.
The Bloomington and Normal libraries worked together to create similar systems for this partial reopening. If you are a member at either library, you can use your membership card at both locations, so you have both catalogs to choose from.
