Boy Remains Critical After SUV Crash

Bloomington Police say the 6-year-old boywho was struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon remains in critical condition at a Peoria hospital.
The Bloomington Police Department said Friday the driver of the SUV that hit the boy was interviewed on scene and released without an arrest or ticket, though the department said the investigation is ongoing.

Police the boy was riding a scooter northbound on Evans Street when it collided with the SUV that was traveling west on Empire Street near Illinois Wesleyan University shortly before 5:30 p.m. Thursday. 

Officers on scene said the boy was rushed to the hospital. He was initially taken to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center. He was later transferred to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

“The entire investigation is still ongoing, so we cannot release much more details than what has been released already,” BPD spokesman John Fermon said in a statement.

Portions of Empire Street were closed for several hours as crews gathered evidence at the scene.
