Bradley University Takes Coronavirus Precautions Amid Outbreak

WCBU

Bradley University is closely monitoring the spread of coronavirus as it may impact students studying abroad.

Italy is a particular point of scrutiny. Bradley is participating in three Italian programs, with eight or nine students enrolled, according to the university's Vice President of Academic Affairs, Nathan Thomas. A hosting institution since pulled the plug on one of those programs amid coronavirus fears.

Bradley is recommending students enrolled in the other two programs consider returning to the U.S. Students would be able to make up the missed credit hours through online courses.

Thomas said there's two upcoming dates the university will need to decide upon.

"One of them is our spring break, and what communications we may need to make to students about various locations that they may just travel to on their own," he said. "And then we know at some point we'll have to make decisions about our own travel abroad programs that will happen during the May interim."

Thomas also said Bradley's health center is coordinating with OSF HealthCare and other community partners to plan a response to potential scenarios on campus.
